This article covers what you will need to know about how to write a story, so if you need or want to know how to write a story, then keep reading.

First and foremost a story is different to a novel. A story is a small to medium sized book, to which one can read in an hour or two tops, and a novel is a large book in which the reader may take several weeks to several months to read. To learn how to write a story we must have the basics of all stories writing which is a beginning, middle and an end. There are a few things yo have to know about how to write a good story. A good story needs a good plot or subject. The plot or subject in your story should be such, that your readers will recommend to other readers, and so on and so forth. A story doesn't have to have illustrations but some do help the reader's imagination, and interest in the story you write alive.

How do i write the beginning?
When you write the beginning of the story, it should include a description of all the main characters involved in the story, or a brief description of the overall surroundings at the time. The characters need to be described in depth, so that the readers can imagine a realistic image of them in their minds. The beginning sets the scene for the rest of the story and is really used for an introduction to the surroundings, the main characters and the adventure that is to be embarked on.

How do i write the middle?
The middle of the story you write, should include the main characters and their journey. The middle should include most of the action, but not all, and the introduction of any other characters that will be involved in the story from here on out. As you write your story, the plot should thicken in this part of the story, but the plot should be such that only the ending will truly say what happened. This will make the reader want to read right onto the end, and will capture the readers imagination and a book that a reader cannot put down is a good book.

How do i write an ending?
When you write your ending, it should include the conclusion to the story and/or adventure. The outcome needs to be described in this part of the book and it is up to you what the outcome is. The good guys don't always have to win; you could leave the door open for another story to make the book into a series. The ending definitely has to take into consideration the rest of the story so that there are no loose ends and all storylines have been put to an end. The surroundings at the end should be described so that the reader finishes the book with a mental picture in their heads of the ending.

The best way to write a story, is to make sure that the plot at the beginning flows right through the book to the end of the story, and that it doesn't waiver. There should never be more than one plot as this becomes confusing and may cause the reader to abandon their attempt to read the book. Make the characters as interesting as possible. The good thing about the written word is that readers can make their own mind up on what or who the main characters look like based on what you've written. How do you know if the story you have managed to write is good enough? A good idea would be to read through your story yourself first, and then proceed to read it to someone else, before letting other people read it. That way you will get someone else's view on it first.

Now that you have been given a few tips on how to write a story, maybe it is time to give thought to what 'audience' you want to write your story for.
