How To Write A Poem
By Joshua Jenkins How to write a poem.
If you want to learn how to write a poem you must already be interested in the use of words and the way they can describe things. Many people have become really famous through writing poetry, maybe you will too. Poem is a word used to describe a piece of writing which in some way utilizes rhythm and language to describe something. It could be describing anything like a landscape, person, relationship, a memory the list is endless. The beauty of learning how to write a poem is that you will be able to describe something and get it off your chest. Many people like to write a poem to relax, whether they show someone else or not doesn't matter because it is up to them.
The first thing you should do to write a poem is find a subject matter. Your subject matter is what the poem is about, you will learn to find subject matter very easily but for now it is best to decide on what the poem is going to be a bout before you write it. Choose something that you feel strongly about, it really doesn't matter because writing a poem is personal. It could be that you want to write a poem about something sad, this is a really good choice because it is such s strong emotion, and people can relate to it. Start with a description or a metaphor: "my sadness is like..." this way you are conceptualizing the subject matter, making it a tangible thing to the reader.
After you have begun writing the rest will follow without any worries, you will find that once you have learnt how to start to write a poem, you will quickly learn how to write the rest of the poem too. So once you have begun to write a poem the possibilities are endless, there is no right and wrong when it comes to writing a poem, it is completely up to you. Post-modern poetry incorporates all styles of poems, from the simplistic and straightforward to the abstract and bizarre, everything is covered and nothing is taboo any more. In fact, the more different your poetry is the better in my opinion it adds flavor to it, and helps it stand out. In saying that, I still enjoy hearing an orthodox poem. The bottom line is learning how to write a poem is very easy, the hardest part is beginning, the rest will follow.
If you have tried to write a poem and you still cant seem to figure out how to do it try rhyming. Rhyming is an easy way to make your poem sound good, although too much or too obvious rhyming can really undermine the message. Try to write down a few words that rhyme, for example: 'Cat' and 'Rat'. Put your words into context and you will find your poem starting to take shape.
I hope this has helped you learn how to write a poem, because learning how to write a poem is very basic. Take some time to think of a good idea and the poem will write itself. It's just too bad there is no way to learn how to come up with good ideas.
