How To Write A Bibliography
By Joshua Jenkins How to write a bibliography
A bibliography is a list of resources that have been used for an article or essay. The bibliography should include a title and an ordered list of resources used. If you write an essay on tigers for example, in your research you may have used a book called "tigers and lions", this means you have to note the book in the bibliography. The detail of the bibliography is up to you, it is often acceptable to write only the book title and author but in some cases you may have to include things such as the chapter number, page number and line reference. You should presume that you have to include everything if you are unsure. How you go about writing a bibliography is not up to you, there are certain rules that must be followed.
The purpose of a bibliography is to inform the reader of which sources you used to gather information. How it helps the reader cross reference the material is by aiding them in finding out how valid your information is. It should b a very straightforward and easy thing to write, making the readers' job very simple. If your bibliography is confusing or misleading then you have written it wrong, likewise if your bibliography is hard to follow. The most important thing to do is make the bibliography very basic. It needs a title, which unsurprisingly is 'bibliography'. A bibliography doesn't have to appear at the end of the essay, it could come in the form of footnoting, this is where you place a number in the essay which is repeated at the bottom with the reference. So for example, your article on tigers begins with a quote, if this quote is taken form a particular book you need to place a footnote like this in the essay, this will correspond to a number at the bottom of the essay page, seen below. As you can see this method is really easy to comprehend for the reader, it is very simple and a good option for your essays.
The more orthodox form of bibliography comes at the end of the essay. To write an effective bibliography is very easy, it merely requires you to write a record of the resources you have used and then write them at the end of the paper. So your article on Tigers uses five different books, four separate internet sites and three newspapers. All of the resources need to be written down at the end of the essay, in order to write an effective bibliography you need to include all of them. Each form of resource uses a slightly different format. For a book you need to write the title, write the author, write the year it was published and by whom. How to write a reference for an internet site is much more straightforward. You basically only need to write the actual site, if there is an author within the site you may want to write their name as well, this is an easy addition but is much more thorough and thus effective. How to reference a newspaper is also very straightforward, write the name of the paper, the date of its' issue, and write the author of the particular article.
Follow these instructions and you will achieve your goal of learning how to write a bibliography. Remember that it is important to be thorough and straightforward
