How To Use Web Cam

By Leeanne Utiger
Learning about and knowing how to use a web cam, is in fact a very easy thing to gain knowledge of and then be able to do.

However, there are obviously a couple of requirements you will be needing. First of all, and most likely the obvious requirement, is to have of use a computer. A web cam is of no use to you if you do not have a computer to install it onto. Secondly, another rather obvious requirement is a web cam itself. You may choose to borrow a webcam, but remember if you do take this option, you will have to make sure you also borrow the software for the web cam, so you can install it to your computer for use. If you do not obtain the software for the web cam as well, then simply put - the web cam is also of no use to you.

If you already have a computer, yet you do not have a web cam, and would like to know how a web cam works, you will have to either do the above, borrow a web cam and its software, or head out to your local computer store, or appliance store, that does in fact stock things such as web cams. You can make your choice from a wide range of web cam, but maybe you will be best asking for assistance at the store you choose to go to when buying a web cam. The sales staff will be only too pleased to help you, and will know how to recommend to you which brand of web cam would be more suitable and which is of better quality than another.

Now that you have purchased or borrowed a web cam, you can settle back and learn how to install the web cam to begin with, and then upon learning the how tos regarding the installation, you can then begin how to use a web cam, and learn how it does what and how many features it in fact does have. On opening your web cam packing, make sure you do not damage it in any way. You should have with the web cam, inside the packaging an installation disc with instructions to follow on exactly how to install the web cam correctly. Simply follow these instructions and learn how to install the web cam as you are physically doing so.

Once you have successfully managed to install the web cam, you will then be ready to learn how to use the web cam and what you can in fact do with it, and with what programs you have on your computer you can use it with.

Normally your web cam will come with a photo program - a program where you can use your web cam to take pictures, either of yourself, or others or the things around you. In fact, you can use your web cam like any other camera, only remembering you have to at all times have your web cam installed into your computer. This means, you cannot unplug your web cam from the computer, take it outside and expect it to work, because it simply will not. A web cam does have its limits, obviously with my last comment, you can see how this is so. Now that we have established you have a photo program which your web cam is programmed into, I suggest you open this program, to begin finding out how your web cam works and what it can do for you.

Within the photo program, you will have options as to what you want to do. There will be a place where you can click on a tab to get your web cam to turn itself on. A little box will appear with what looks like another mini screen - you should be able to see yourself, if you have your web cam focus lens directed at yourself. By now, you have begun to know how a web cam works. You can take a picture/photo while this program is open and then save it or transfer it to your picture folder elsewhere on your computer. Simply click the tab where it says to. Each software program has different wordings on their options, but generally they all mean the same, and you will see how very self explanatory they are. Once you have discovered how to take a picture, you can only but keep learning how to take better pictures or photos as some like to call them, with your web cam. Consider the lighting you have in the room where you are learning and discovering how to use your web cam. Once you have finished learning about how to use a web cam within this program you can simply exit out of it or close file. Once again, all of this is self explanatory, and easily recognised once you have the program open in front of you. If you get stuck, the instructions you received with the web cam will be of further use to you. If you are still not sure how to use a web cam, simply take some time out to read these thoroughly.

Another way you can learn how to use your web cam, is to open up a program called MSN Messenger. If you have this program and also have a webcam, you will be able to learn how to use your web cam while talking to another person, where ever they may be in the world. In the MSN Messenger program, there is the option to invite the person you are talking to - to view your webcam. If you click on this option, your web cam will automatically turn itself on and focus in on where it is directed to. The person you are talking to, will then be able to see and view you as you are having a conversation with them.

I have given you a few pointers on how to use a web cam, but you still may not be confident enough to give your web cam a try. So, sit back and look over your instructions that came with your web cam, and maybe if you want, or need further assistance with learning how to use a web cam, you can do a search on the net for more information to help you out.

Other than that, you may have a friend who already owns a web cam. Ask them for further advice on how to use a web cam, or get them to go to your house and give you a one on one tutorial on how to use a web cam.
