If your wondering how to use an ipod, don't worry. These little machines are superbly designed in operation, as long as you are running apple. If your one of the 85% of PC users over Mac then you are bound to have some trouble with your ipod. Your Ipod instruction manual should be able to help alleviate these problems but like I said these machines are well designed, something makes me feel like it's Windows dragging the chain here. I will give you some tips on how to use an ipod just in case you run Windows.

To reset your ipod: either connect it to mains power, toggle the hold switch or hold the select and menu buttons for 6 seconds.

It will not respond: ensure the hold switch is off. Try charging your ipod. Reset your ipod. Restore ipod software by referring to your instruction manual.

If your ipod is not playing music: Make sure hold is off. Make sure headphones are connected. Check playing volume and pause function. Check speakers. Reset Ipod.

It says do not disconnect: Wait for the download to finish. Click eject button. Click safely remove hardware icon in tray. If that fails to work you may need to restart your computer.

Screen is too light / dark: Click settings, contrast.

Interconnecting Mac and Windows: If you want to work these two computers with the same ipod be cautious as you will reset your ipod each time you switch between operating systems.

Onscreen help: Open itunes and choose help then itunes and music store help.

Firewire/USB malfunctions: You must connect your ipod to your computer through either USB2.0 or the preferred firewire connection. Many computers won't have firewire connections but you can buy a PC card adapter for cheap enough. USB 1.1 is not capable of connecting your ipod to your computer. Make sure if you are using USB 2.0 that your computer is connected to mains power with your ipod. If you have a 6 pin firewire port most ipods come with a firewire cable to connect the two. Firewire is much faster to use than USB.

Basic ipod controls which you may need when wondering how to use an ipod are: Press any button to turn on the ipod. Hold play/pause button to turn ipod off. Toggle the backlight by pressing menu and holding. Go back= menu. To play a song on your ipod select the song with the click wheel and press play/pause.

Ipods are great fun and can almost become an addiction, you'd sooner leave everything at home besides your ipod. Many people I know have started extensive music collections on their ipods.
