How To Throw Knife

By Jason Taingahue
Some people just throw a knife for the sake of throwing it. There are actual techniques to throwing a knife and if you read on I will explain to you how to throw a knife.

First of all when learning to throw a knife we must obtain some knives first and to do this we can either get one out of cutlery draw in the kitchen, or go down to your local army surplus store or buy some throwing knives, which are actually made for throwing.

The next step that we must do when learning how to throw a knife is to get a target that we can throw the knives at. An old thick board would be an appropriate target to throw the knives at. Make sure that it is a big piece of board as well.

When learning how to throw a knife with a piece of board as a target, draw something on the board, like your worst enemy or just a simple target and have points for various parts of the target that you hit. The best place to set up a target is against a tree in a really open area with no one around so that if you miss the board altogether the knife will just travel and drop.

Below I will show you three examples of how to throw a knife and remember that these techniques need to be practiced a lot of times before you can perfect them.

The first technique that we will use when learning how to throw a knife is the under arm throw and to do an under arm throw the method is as follows. Turn the throwing hand upwards and flat and lay the knife in the middle of the hand with the blade at the back of the hand. Now take the thumb and bring it so that it is sitting on its side on the blade. Now to throw the knife you just bring the whole arm backwards and then thrust it forward and let the knife go just as the hand reaches parallel to the ground.

The next technique that we are going to use is the over arm method, and to do this method we take the same grip as the under arm method, but this time instead of bringing the arm backwards and under for the throw, we take the arm over the back of the head and, just to the side. Once we have this position we then thrust the arm forward and as we get to parallel with the ground height we let the knife go so that it heads for the target.

The last technique that I am going to explain to you when learning how to throw a knife is the fist grip throw. Before doing this grip, please wear some gloves, just in case the knife is to sharp and may cut the skin. Anyway when learning how to throw a knife using this grip the first thing that we do is grab the knife and hold it with a closed fist grip. The grip is easy to do, it is the throwing that is the tricky part. To throw a knife using this grip we take it to the back of the head and when let the knife go just as it reaches parallel to the ground.

Well I hope that these methods of learning how to throw a knife help you with your knife throwing skills.
