Have you ever eaten smoked fish while out and wondered how you too can learn how to smoke your own fish..? In this article I am going to give you some information required to help you now learn to smoke your own fish for enjoyment. Once you learn how to smoke fish for yourself, you may wish to then teach someone you know how they too can learn how to smoke fish.

When you learn how to smoke fish, you will learn that the best fish to smoke is fresh fish. You can however also opt to use fish that has been quickly frozen. You will learn how to clean the fish, remove the scales from the fish, remove the fins from the fish, along with removing the tail and the head of the fish. On learning how to smoke fish, you will in addition learn how to remove the bruised or damaged flesh of the fish.

It is important to always wash your cleaned fish in cold water when you learn how to smoke fish. Place your fish into some brine for at least 15 minutes. Cut the fish into pieces, making sure the pieces are not too think, yet also not too thin. To make brine for your fish, when you are learning to smoke it, combine 2 ½ tablespoons with 1 cup of water.

When you learn how to smoke fish, you will learn that you will need to have on hand a smoker to smoke the cleaned, prepared fish in. You will also learn when you find out more about how to smoke fish, that the fish will need to be smoked for at least 3 hours, sometimes longer depending on the amount and weight of your fish you have to smoke.

You are now ready to prepare your smoker for smoking your prepared fish in. You should remove your prepared fish from the brine and rinse once more under cold water. You can now place your fish, (skin side down) on your smoker rack. When you learn how to smoke fish and actually physically smoke fish, learn how the temperature of the smoker has to be kept relatively low. After approximately 2 hours of smoking the fish you can then slightly increase the temperature on your smoker.

You will learn how to tell if your fish has been smoked sufficiently. The fish will become flaky and on sight, cooked through. You can easily tell the difference between raw fish and cooked fish.

Once you have learned how to successfully smoke your fish, serve it immediately while it is still hot.

If you wish to take away the fishy smell when you learn how to smoke fish, add a few squeezes of lemon juice to the brine before you soak the prepared fish in it prior to smoking it.

And another word of advice that may save you money. If you are learning to smoke fish for the very first time, I suggest you opt to purchase a cheaper fish. Once you have learned how to master smoking fish and become quite 'trained' and skilled at smoking fish, you can then choose to purchase a more expensive piece of fish to smoke.

Once you have learned how to smoke your fish well and want to show off your new culinary skills, invite some friends over for dinner and tempt them to a tasty platter of freshly smoked fish, with a nice side salad and maybe some new potatoes. Such a healthy and delicious meal for a pleasant summer evening with friends. You may find that your friends will then want you to teach them how to smoke fish.
