How To Shoot A Basketball
By Jason Taingahue In order to learn the game of basketball we must learn how to shoot a basketball first. And if you want to learn how to shoot a basketball then just keep reading and I will show you a quick guide to learning how to shoot a basketball.
Well the first thing that we need when learning how to shoot a basketball is a basketball. So go down to the local sports store and get a basketball to practice shooting with. Ask the shop assistant for help so that you don't get the wrong kind of basketball. Tell the store assistant that you want a basketball that has a lot of grip on it. This kind of ball will last longer, and shooting a basket will be easier.
Now that we have our ball we can then go to a local basketball center or go to a school when school is over, they usually have basketball hoops that they will let you use for a while, for when you feel like shooting baskets.
The next step when learning how to shoot a basketball, is that we need to have a good stance. So to do this we will stand with two feet just on the inside of shoulder width and together facing towards the basketball hoop from anywhere on the court. Preferably closer if you are just learning.
Now that we have our stance when learning how to shoot a basketball we can then take a grip of the ball which is as follows. If you are right handed then this is how you grip a basketball ready to shoot it. You bend your right hand backwards and sit the basketball in the palm of your hand. You then take your left hand and put it to the left side of the ball. This will give you a steady grip when learning how to shoot a basketball. Take this grip to a height just above the eye brows and in front of the face. We are now at the final stage of learning how to shoot a basketball.
Now the final stage when learning how to shoot a basketball is as follows. Bend the knees slightly, keeping the grip and the height of the ball the same. As you go too rise, make sure that on the rise you come up onto your toes and flick the right hand on the full rise of the movement. This gives the ball momentum when it leaves your hands. And when the ball leaves your hands return to the normal standing position and watch the ball hopefully go into the hoop when you shoot it.
There goes your simple to follow lessons on learning how to shoot a basketball. The only way that you are going to get better at shooting a basketball is to practice a lot. So don't get disappointed if you can't get it right with your first attempt. This happens to all of us, even Michael Jordan had to start somewhere and this is exactly what he went through too, needless to say, he became probably one of the legends of basketball with the amount of practice that he put in.
