You will need a bucket, your cement mix and some sand. You should place in the bucket 6 parts sand to 1 part cement. You need to mix this together until you see an even color throughout your bucket. This will mean you have mixed the sand and the cement evenly. If you find using a bucket is too small or inconvenient, try mixing the cement up on a large plastic sheet that you will not have to use for anything of importance again.
Fill a bucket up with some water and add a small amount of washing liquid. This helps to aid as a plasterer. Once you have mixed your cement and sand together forming a mortar, you will then have to make a mound out of it leaving a hollow in the middle. Add a little amount of water, not too much or the cement mix will simply turn into a runny slushy mess. Working inwards from the outside of the cement mix mound turn the mix over into the water. Continue to do this until all of the water you have added has been soaked up into the cement mix. Repeat this procedure with the cement mix and the water until your cement mix resembles something of consistency that will pour smoothly and not run everywhere. If your cement mix seems to be too slushy, simply add a little more cement mix without any further sand to bring more consistency back into the final mix. If the final cement mix looks to hard, lumpy or dry, simply add a little more water and repeat the mixing process. Use your common sense really when it comes to deciding whether your final cement mix is a good consistency or not.
A finished cement mix will generally last about 3 hours. Once the cement is poured it can take up to 3 days to set fully and successfully.

You will be surprised at what you can achieve with a little bit of cement placed here and there.
