How To Make Perfume
By Jenna Litchfield Ahh perfume, we all the love the smell of it, we have all owned perfume or have had perfume sprayed on us.
There are millions of fragrances, and smells that make your noses tingle and your senses liven up, there are cheap ones and expensive ones that come in plain bottles and intricately designed bottles.
To me I just think it smells good who cares about the bottle! So how do I make my own? And make it without the big name celebrity cost?
Only ten percent of perfume costs these days are actually for the ingredients the rest is brand names, packaging and advertising.
I personally think anything with a scent is a perfume for example essential oils make a great scent to dab on to your skin; perfume is just a fancy name for some thing that sprays on to your skin out of a bottle.
But how to you make the fancy perfume stuff then?
Well being able to make your own perfume is a bonus, you will always know what is in it and how you made it, plus you will always love the smell! And can adjust it whenever!
Perfume is a formula, which consists of about 15-30 percent essential oil, 80 percent alcohol, and the rest is distilled water.
Most perfume has alcohol or some form of alcohol in it and is usually 100% vodka.
Ok so lets pick out some essential oils to make your perfume with they are usually available from a health shop or somewhere of the similar, make sure you test them on you skin for reactions, and also to see if the smell differs on your skin, as some times you can smell a perfectly adorable perfume in the shop however as soon as it gets on your skin it smells completely different!
Some good essential oils to try are Frankincense, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang, Lavender and Rosemary, there are a lot more types of essential oils however have a look around and use your nose to find the ones you like.
Ok now you can make your perfume, add your essential oil to your alcohol stirring it through, Make sure all of the essential oils have dissolved.
Use a clear glass container or bottle so you can watch perfume to make sure everything is going to plan and let it stand for about 48 hours, then add the distilled water stirring that through slowly as well then stand for another 48 hours.
The time you let it stand and cure can vary from 48 hours to weeks in some cases if you like a stronger scent however if it gets to strong you can always use some water to dilute it and make it a little less intense.
If you want to make your amazing smelling perfume a nice color, good high quality vegetable dye is recommended by most to use.
Then pour the mixture though a strainer, as the mixture will have a little bit of sediment in it.
Then dispense your perfume into the bottles of your choice and make sure the cap is tightly done up however remember not to expose your perfume to the sun and keep them in UV resistant bottles.
Now you have your very own perfume to use and share, experiment with colors and different scents who knows if you get really good at it you could launch your own fragrance line and make a good profit off all of it!
