How To Make Gel Candle
By Jenna Litchfield Gel candles, great for Christmas gifts, birthdays or just for a little gift for someone, ever wondered how to make them?
With gel candles, you can make so many different colors you can use and different fragrances, the possibilities are endless.
Also you can put the gel wax in almost any glass container you want! Be it a bowl, a cup like glass or anything!
The great thing about gel wax is that it is clear, you can see almost through it, so you insert all sorts of things into it giving it such great appeal, people will ask you "WOW how did you do that?!"
To make your own gel candle you will need the following: (found at most craft stores)
Gel wax
Suitable glass ware to put the gel wax in
Wicks
Small pot to heat your gel wax in
Oven mitts and paper towels.
Dye for the gel wax if you want to make it pretty and change the color.
Fragrant oil if you want to make the candle smell pretty.
Pre-heat the glass you are using to make the candle in an oven for ten minutes at about 120 degree Fahrenheit just to heat it up so the wax slides in nicely and there are no bubbles.
Ok with the glass container you want to put the gel wax in for your candle, position the wicks where u want them, of course you can have more than one if u wish.
And if you need help holding them up you can clip them to a piece of wire which u can lay across the top of the glass with an alligator clip. You can use good old wire coat hanger pieces to clip them on too.
Heat the gel wax on a low heat in the small pot, let it slowly melt, however if it starts to smoke remove it immediately let it cool down and slowly heat it again. Make sure you do not heat the wax any hotter than 200 degrees.
Once melted you can make the candle your own by adding dye and fragrances to the gel wax.
Then pour it into your container, do it slowly so you don't get any bubbles.
As your pouring it in, you can drop pieces of fruit or other little things such as seashells etc.
Also for a really pretty look you can put glitter or sand into the gel wax candle as well and make little environments like a sea side one, layering the gel wax with shells and sand.
You can also make candles to match the seasons, like Christmas and Easter however make sure that whatever you put in your candle is non-flammable.
Then allow to cool completely, usually about 24 hours, then bake the candle at about 200 degrees in an oven, however if the candle is cloudy it is usually because you have put too much fragrance in it however the cooking will bake it out as well as any bubbles that are in the candle will also disappear with the cooking as they will rise to the top of the candle.
After cooking the candle, let it cool down of course it is going to be extremely hot so make sure you or some one else does not burn them selves, then trim the wick at the top and tadaa you have your own little gel candle that you learnt how to make.
So wrap them up, give them to friends and family remember to be careful with lit candles, do not keep lit candles in reach of children, keep out of drafts as well.
Not only can drafts make it dangerous, but it can make the burning process a lot quicker for your gel candle.
