How To Make A Good Resume
By Jenna Litchfield How to go about making a good resume?
To get that life long dream job, or to get your career started you need to be able to know how to make a good resume.
Without a good resume there is no chance for an interview, no chance to sell yourself!
You need a good resume that is going to grab the employer's attention, and make them say "WOW" I want to hire them!
Employers quite often can throw out good resumes because of how they appear boring and bland, but to have a good resume that looks professional and interesting is going to land you a second glance and hopefully the position!
When writing a good resume remember it is an introduction to yourself, where you live, what you have done, what you can do and how / why you would make a fantastic good candidate for that job!
It is like a mini brochure selling a product, and the product is you!
Your resume gives the prospective employer a summary of your skills, education, accomplishments, your interests and main objective in your career!
Always make the font you are using is readable and outline and bold headings, as they are important!
You want the employers to read the important parts of your good resume!
Include headings such as:
Personal information:
Always make sure to include your name and contact details! Your full name (no nick names) cell phone numbers, postal and living address and also your home number with area codes included and also your age.
Main / Career objective:
Your main objective is how you tell the employer what you want in your career, what you want to succeed at and learn, telling them what you want to be! And how you want to do it!
Make this your selling point of your resume!
Work history or Experience:
Work history and experience is always a valuable asset to your resume, as the employer can see where and how you have put your skills to use and how and where you will be useful.
Remember to list the positions from most recent to least recent and, the skills learned and gained while being there and or any achievements you had while you were there.
Education:
List the High schools, colleges where you have studied and also what subjects you studied; don't forget dates, and achievements.
Personal interests and activities:
Listing your personal interests and activities is a good way for the employer to have an idea of your personality and see what leadership skills you may have and how good you could or would fit into a position.
References:
References are people you have worked for, that possible employers can call on about your work ethic.
They can be listed on your resume with their names, their position held and their contact numbers.
Or you can clearly state " References available on request" if you do not wish to make your references contact details available, always make sure you have permission from the referees concerned that you wish to list.
Remember to proof read your resume, get other opinions from family friends, and see how they respond to your resume.
Then read your resume yourself as if you were the employer, think to your self what they would like to see in a resume and how, but remember always be truthful!!!
Also think about what position you are applying for, for example if it is a position related to Design, think about how creative you can make your resume to show off your skills.
If it is related to a technical job etc make sure you include good details relevant to the position and so on.
And always remember to update your resume each time you learn a new skill or qualification or if you attain a new position as it is always important to make your resume as up to date as possible.
