Maybe you have been redecorating your bedroom, or a bedroom, and have wondered on how you can make a bed canopy. If you keep reading, you will learn just how you can make a bed canopy.

An easy bed canopy to make is one that attaches to the wall above the head of your bed and drapes down to the sides. You will need a decent length of fabric to make this bed canopy, however not too much that you have yards of it draping on the floor. You do not want to end up tripping over the bed canopy that you learn how to make.

Now to learning how to make a bed canopy.

You will have to sew a hem along the edges (sides) of the length of fabric, as well as along the hem line. This is the bottom of and of the length of fabric. You will have to fold the fabric in half lengthwise and then sew two rows of stitching near the center line. This gives you a gap to push your rod through. Obviously given this, you will have to have a curtain rod the appropriate length to match your fabric length. It is very easy to know how to push the rod through, as the gap you have created is exactly where you place it. Just feed the rod up through here.

There are a few more steps to knowing how to make a bed canopy. You will need to know how to install wall brackets. You will have to install one wall bracket at the top, where the top of the bed canopy will drape down from, and one on either side of the bed, at an appropriate height off the floor. Now to knowing how to install wall brackets, if you have wall studs or not. If in fact you do have wall studs, you can use wooden screws. If you do not have wall studs, use wall anchors.

Many bed canopies come in kitset packages. Knowing how to install and make these up is easier still, as the bed canopy kitset will come with easy to follow instructions and all of the materials you will need to teach you how to make a bed canopy.

You will also need to know how to install a curtain rod extender. Simply place this on top of the top bracket and place the fabric covered curtain rod to the extender.

Now you will need to know how to frame your bed with the canopy you have learned how to make. Place the draping side pieces of fabric over the side brackets.

You can also learn how to make another form of bed canopy, which is simply a panel of fabric hung on the wall, with a half moon shaped valance that drapes down over the bed. This sort of bed canopy is best learnt how to make with the assistance of a kitset. These you can purchase at any good fabric or craft store, and maybe even a hardware store. It will pay to shop around to see which kit best suits your level of learning really. Knowing how to make some bed canopies are obviously easier than others.

I have given you a brief rundown on how to make a simple bed canopy. Maybe it is now time, for you to put your learning skills to the test, and see if you can successfully make yourself a bed canopy.
