So for one reason or another you want to know how to change your name legally.

There are a couple of ways you can learn how to change your name legally. You can pay a visit to a local courthouse and make enquiries with them on how you can change your name legally, or your family lawyer will also be able to tell you how you can change your name legally.

Below I will go into detail regarding a few ways, that will make it clear to you how you can in fact legally change your name.

To begin with, if you just want to change your name because you no longer wish to be known as the person you are today, go to your local courthouse and explain that you wish to legally change your name. You can change your name legally through a method called, Deed Pole. This is when you pay a fee and then legally have your name changed and placed on file within the courts. This becomes a legally bound document and therefore means you have managed to learn how and in fact change your name legally. The fee is often that high and the forms to legally change your name this way, are readily available at your local or district court house. If you need assistance in filling them out, simply ask someone within the reception area of the court house to help you. They will be only too happy to help you out. You will have to supply your current birth certificate to prove who you say you are and any other relevant documents. You can also change your name legally using this method after you have succeeded in filing for a divorce. In this instance, you may also have to supply your marriage licence or legal documents regarding the divorce confirmation. When you change your name this way, you will also learn how you can actually change your name to anything you wish it to be.

You must remember that if you are wanting to know how to change your name legally, and then do so for yourself, you have to be at least 19 in most countries, however in some countries you can be 18. If you are wanting to know how to change the name of a child, or a person under the age of the above stipulated, you will find that a legal guardian or parent will have to complete all of the required documents and complete the process for the child.

In some countries you will have to even supply your fingerprints and have them placed on record to validate who you are. You will always have to provide the relevant documents as I have mentioned above and pay a small fee. The fee for being able to change your name legally will vary in different countries also. However, where ever you are, knowing how to legally change your name, will always take you back to your local or district court house.

Now when you begin to learn how you can in fact change your name legally, you will also discover that when a person marries, the surname they take on, will become their legally used name. The marriage certificate becomes authenticated, and then the name change becomes legal.
