How To Lay Bricks

You may want to lay some bricks to form a small fence or even an outside built in barbeque area.
You will need some bricks of course, and some mortar. Mortar is cement mix that you combine with water to form a suitable consistency to place between the bricks to join them all together.
It is suggested that if you do not have a concrete mixer machine, that you mix up your cement and water, (which becomes your mortar) in a wheel barrow. You are now on your way to learn how to lay bricks. You will also need a concrete spatula type tool to help you smooth out any excess mortar from around the bricks once you have lay them.
If you are laying bricks to form a fence or barrier wall, simply place a trench of mortar at the base of what will be your brick barrier wall and then lay the bricks into this, keeping a small gap between each brick for the mortar to go between. Now you are learning how to lay your bricks.
Once you have the base row of bricks in lined up in place, you can then begin to place the other bricks on top of these. It is suggested that you do this in an alternative way. Never place the bricks flatly and squarely on top of one another. Remember with each and every brick you learn how to lay, you will have to place more mortar around and on top of the brick as well. The mortar as mentioned earlier joins all of the bricks you are learning how to lay together.
Once the mortar dries you will have a nice brick wall, or barbeque area, depending on what it is you are wanting to learn how to lay bricks for.
With the concrete laying spatula tool, you will learn how to remove any excess mortar away from the bricks you have learned how to lay. You do not want dried mortar jutting out from all strange angles. This will in fact give a terrible appearance to your brick work you have learned how to lay and can in fact cause an injury. Dried mortar can be sharp if unsmoothed out and removed from inappropriate places. So take care and pride in your brick laying work.
Always maintain the mortar you use at a nice smooth consistency. If the mortar is too lumpy, simply add a little extra water and mix together. If the mortar is too runny, simply add a little extra cement mix and mix together. Common sense is basically called for regarding the consistency of your mortar. But it does make all the difference when you take up brick laying. You want the whole project to look as professional as possible.
It will take a while for the bricks you have learned how to lay to dry, so make sure you do not lean on them, and that no one else leans on them either, until they are completely dry.
