How To Hypnotize Someone
By Polly Hamilton Many people don't believe that hypnosis works, or that it is real. This is generally because they have seen false or hyped up media representations which have nothing to do with what hypnosis really is! What I will teach you today is not how to conduct therapy through hypnosis, but more of how to hypnotize someone for entertainment. But this article has nothing to do with hypnotizing people to hurt them or embarrass them, and never against their will.
Secondly you must understand how hypnosis is not a complicated process which is foreign to our bodies. Some people may experience hypnosis several times a day: while reading a book, watching a movie, etc. Some people call this being 'in suture'. You are focused or engrossed in the task at hand, and therefore very relaxed. You may want to explain this to someone who is afraid of hypnosis, or afraid they might get stuck in a hypnotic state (this could never happen). Let them know that it won't feel any different from everyday life, just more relaxed.
Before you begin, you must read the DON'T rules (and adhere to them!):
- When a person is hypnotized, never ask them to do anything harmful to them or anyone else. Don't ask them to do or tell you anything that you wouldn't normally, e.g. fly, people who are hypnotized do NOT have super-human powers!
- Don't do anything to a person when you hypnotize them that you wouldn't normally do. No pornographic films, piercings, making them eat disgusting food, etc.
The following list will help you know when you have achieved hypnosis on someone:
- Fluttering eyelids
- Redness or wetness of the eyes after opening
- Relaxation and loosening of the muscles (some men may experience erections when completely hypnotized)
- Slightly difficult to swallow
- Slower, deeper breathing
- Twitches in the body
Before you hypnotize someone, go through this checklist with them:
- Hypnosis happens many times a day in short periods, you will feel relaxed and relatively normal.
- When hypnotized you won't do anything you would normally say no to, you will still have a conscience!
- When hypnotized you are usually still aware of the environment you are in
How to hypnotize someone: the progressive relaxation technique:
1. Get the person to lie or sit, and be comfortable.
2. Speak to them slowly and calmly
3. Say "Take a deep breath and as you let it out, close your eyes and begin to feel yourself relaxing."
4. Say "Become aware of your arms... and relax the muscles in your arms... make sure they are fully relaxed and comfortable... and relax the muscles in your legs... etc."
5. Be positive, let them know they're doing everything right
6. Repeat until they are completely relaxed, you may have to do it three or four times. It should take around 10 to 15 minutes.
7. Once you have completed the exercise say the following: "I will now count to five, once I've reached five, I want your eyes to be open and you will feel relaxed and refreshed". Count up from one, with each number make your own voice more awake and normal. Once you've reached five they will have their eyes open and hopefully be relaxed and refreshed!
Of course, what you do when you hypnotize someone is completely up to you! You may get them to act out scenes from films, pretend to be animals, to paint a crazy picture. There's no end to what you can do, as long as you and that someone are entirely comfortable and safe, and you are sure you know how to hypnotize them.
