How To Heal A Bruise

So you may have some bruising or bruises and you want to know how to heal them. Keep reading, because this article is all about how to heal a bruise.

Firstly you need to know that a bruise is a contusion or a hematoma.

A bruise is when blood is released form the capillaries and becomes trapped underneath the skin. So how do we treat and heal a bruise? Well, if you can see a bruise forming, and that it has some coloring, the bruise will already be beginning to heal. As the color of the bruise fades, generally the pain will do so too.

Unfortunately bruises can take up to two weeks to properly heal.

When you look into how to heal a bruise, you will discover that there a re stages a bruise will go through on healing. This can be noticeable in the varying colorings a bruise will change to. A bruise will probably start out red, then turn blue or maybe dark purple. It will then go to yellow or green. These are signs that the bruise is healing, so do not be alarmed at the varying colors your bruise may take on.

On finding out more about bruises and how in fact to treat and heal a bruise, you will learn that bruises are best healed if you treat them immediately. It is suggested that you apply ice to the bruised area straight away. Leave the ice on the bruise for at least fifteen minutes. Try using an icepack or a frozen bag of vegetables. You will learn how not to apply ice straight to the skin. It is suggested that you wrap the icepack in a towel. This form of treatment when used for healing a bruise will reduce the swelling, numbs the pain and slows down the swelling.

You will also learn how some medicated drugs can help heal a bruise. Ibuprofen can be taken to help heal a bruise. This will reduce the pain you are feeling. However you will also learn to never take Asprin. This is because Asprin will slow down the process of the blood clotting and therefore prolong the bleeding.

You will learn how to further help heal a bruise using heat. Warm a facecloth and apply this to the bruised area for approximately ten minutes or so. This will help the circulation return to the affected bruise area. This is turn will help the skin reabsorb the blood more efficiently.

Eventually the bruise you have learned how to heal will fade and go away.

If a bruise does not appear to heal within three to four weeks, you should consult your family doctor immediately. He or she will be able to advise you further on how to heal the bruise.

Bruises are very common, but some bruises are worse than others. You have to take care of a bruise, just as you do any other health problem that arises. Basically keep an eye on the stages your bruise goes through during the healing process. If it appears to be healing rather slowly, then as I mentioned above, schedule an appointment with your doctor and get some additional advice on how to heal the bruise. It could turn out that you have caused some other damage to yourself as well.
