How To Get Rid Of Hiccups
By Leeanne Utiger Learn how to get rid of hiccups, and never have to suffer long periods of time with them, or have to feel embarrassed, when you get the hiccups while out at a social gathering.
There are a few ways to supposedly learn how to get rid of the hiccups. While some of these ways may in fact get rid of the hiccups for one person, they will not necessarily get rid of the hiccups for another person. So learning how you, yourself can get rid of hiccups is what we are trying to accomplish. Some of the ways I will describe in knowing how to get rid of the hiccups, have been heard of for many years, and could have quite likely being passed down to you from your parents or your grandparents. There are even a few old 'wives tales', about how to get rid of hiccups.
The first way of being able to get rid of the hiccups that I know of, is what I will call 'the hold your breath' method. When you realise you have a good old bout of the hiccups, take a deep breath and then hold it in, silently count to 30 inside your head. This will measure an approximate 30 second time period. Obviously, you will also know how to count. If you cannot hold your breath and count to 30, count to as high as you can while you are holding your breath, in your attempt to get rid of the hiccups. Once you have silently counted in your head up to 30, you can safely breath again. Hopefully this method has in fact managed to get rid of the hiccups for you. If it hasn't, you can always try again.
Another simple, yet often effective way in knowing how to get rid of the hiccups, is to upon getting the hiccups, find a paper bag, and gather the top of it together, just leaving a small gap in what you have gathered up in your hand for you to breath in and out of. This is also a good way to regain your breath when you are hypo ventilating. Put your mouth up to the small gap in the top of the paper bag and take a slow deep breath. Then just as slowly, breath out what you have breathed in. Repeat this slowly until you feel you have managed to get rid of the hiccups.
If neither one of the suggested methods above do in fact help you to get rid of the hiccups, there is one more method I know of. This has been tried many times before, amongst many people that I know. It has in fact appeared to have worked with some, and with others, it has not. I'm not sure whether to put too much faith into this method of being able to get rid of the hiccups or not, yet it is obviously worth a go, and I mean to say, anything is worth a try when you need to get rid of the hiccups.
You will need to get someone to try and give you a fright. Use your imagination on how to do this, just make sure you don't do anything stupid, and you keep safe. This is apparently meant to 'scare' the hiccups out of you. Why this does this? - I do not know myself. Maybe this method used, when needing to get rid of the hiccups, has being one of the old wives tales passed down from generation to generation.
So the next time you get a dose of the hiccups, try these methods to see if you can in fact get rid of them - they just may work, and you will be hiccup free within no time.
