How To Get Rid Of Bats
By Jenna Litchfield Bats are not rodents or flying mice, bats are primates with a bad reputation.
However bats are pretty harmless, and are great for getting rid of insects however if bats are dwelling in huge areas near human's fungal diseases can be caught from their droppings and urine, bats can carry sometimes carry rabies however this is only a slight percentage of them not all bats can carry rabies.
The only reasons bats tend to swarm your dwellings are that they are only seeking shelter, and bats only need a small space to get inside your buildings so learning how to get rid of bats is a very good piece of information to attain.
The most cost effective and safe method to get rid of them is to trap and get rid of the bats one by one.
They are usually are called a bat exclusion, the bats are removed then all entrance points to your roof or attic are then sealed off then the droppings are removed.
Any wildlife removal company can be used, provided they do an effective job on the removal so the bats do not return and that none of the bats are harmed or injured.
From April to mid august is advised as a time NOT to get rid of the bat's as it is there birthing time and if you do so the young bats usually get lost and find there way into your house and can starve to death leaving stench and sometimes disease.
Ok to start getting rid of bats you will need to find the entrance or exit for the bats you can find this at sunset, however this can be anywhere with a half inch gap, near chimneys under tiles, so just watch for the bats exiting the house, then note down the exit point.
After finding the exit entrance point block any other potential entranceways or exit ways in the roof or building.
Then attach bird mesh across the hole and down towards the ground so when the bats try to crawl out of the exit hole the fall down under the mesh and fly out and the bats usually cant get back in so in theory there one way exit doors.
Leave these on for about a week or two then take them off and seal the hole.
If one tends to fly into your house, the most likely cause of this is that is lost, however do not panic and try to wildly hit it to get rid of it.
Confine the bat to one room and turn the lights on so you can see it then open any doors or windows that go outside.
The bat will find its way out after time, do not chase the bat as it will get itself into a panic and confuse itself and take longer to get a fix on which way is out.
Another way to get rid of bats is to gently catch the bat with a butterfly net, or pillowcase or something of the similar however do not touch it with your hands as fear of disease or the bat biting so wear gloves if you are trying to pick it up to get rid of it.
Or when the bat has landed on the ground, but a container over the top of it then slide cardboard underneath the container this is the same method used to catch insects once caught proceed top get it outside and let it go.
To get rid of bat droppings try and get the professionals to do it as the droppings and urine or Guano as it is called is a health hazard.
It has disease-causing organisms in it and can stink really badly, usually the droppings are removed by vacuum, and then the premises are disinfected and deodorized.
Any one entering the premises to get rid of the bat droppings should wear protective gear, gloves and masks as the smell and stench are pretty bad and if in inhaled can cause problems.
After all that your house should be rid of bats, if not, check all areas for entrance and exit points and repeat the process or try another bat removal company.
