Maybe you have just turned the age when you are now leggally able to learn how to drive and you want to know how to drive a stick shift. If this sounds like you, and youw would rather learn how to drive a stick shift as opposed to an automatic vehicle, then this article most definitely is for you. In this article you will in fact learn how you too can drive a stick shift.

When learning how to drive a stick shift you have to make sure that before attempting to learn how to drive a stick shift, you will have to have a lot of patience and preferably a clear road in front of you. If you have absolutely no idea of how to drive a stick shift then you definitely need a lot of space and a lot of patience. Learning to drive a stick shift can be stressful for some, so bear this in mind when you decide you want to know how to drive a stick shift.

The first thing we need is a reliable car we think of learning how to drive a stick shift. Before you start leaning how to drive a stick shift make sure all the mirrors are positioned correctly and the seat is at a comfortable distance from the pedals. Just far enough so you can reach the clutch and push it all the way down with your foot comfortably and the same with the brake and accelerator pedals.

Make sure the car isn't in gear (or in neutral). Next thing we want to do, is start the car, give the car a little gas to get it started and then push the clutch pedal all the way down to the floor. Push the gear stick into 1st gear, which is to the left a little and upwards. You should feel the gear stick going into gear, next give the car a little gas and slowly pull your foot off the clutch. Give the car more gas the further you let the clutch up off the floor. Don't' worry if you bunny hop as this is normal and pretty much expected if you are a learner driver and have never ever had the chance to drive a stick shift before. The reason the car would bunny hop is because you have taken your foot off the clutch too fast with not enough gas.

If you have taken off successfully and your car is revving up, you are ready to change into second gear. This has to happen quite fast, take your foot off the gas and push the clutch pedal down to the floor, while your foot is on the floor, change the car into second gear, which is directly below first. Carefully and slowly give the car a little gas and as you do, lift your foot off the clutch pedal. The car should continue driving along. Changing into 3rd is a little difficult so when the car has revved up again, push the clutch to the floor and lift the gear stick up and to the right and then up till you cant push it any further upwards. Slowly give the car a little gas and as you do, lift your foot off the clutch pedal. When you are ready to change into 4th, push the clutch to the floor and pull the gear stick directly down. Slowly give the car a little gas and as you do, lift your foot off the clutch pedal if you want to change down gears, to slow the car down then take your foot off the gas and push the clutch pedal to the floor and change up a gear, go straight back upwards if you want to go to 3rd, up and to the left then down if you want to change to 2nd. You will successfully stop the car by using the brake pedal and having the clutch pedal flat on the floor. This is so the car won't stall when you stop.

That is all there really is learning how to drive a stick shift. Do you now think you are ready to put inot practice what i have gone into detail about for you, to successfully be able to drive a stick shift. Bear in mind, if yuo still do not feel confident enough to head out and drive a stick shift, you can always get hold of a driving instructor who will be more than happy to teach you more about how to drive a stick shift.

Don't forget to always leave the car out of gear, when you have stopped and remember that you probably won't get it the first time you try this but you will eventually get it with 2 key elements, practice and patience.
