How To Cook Steak
By Leeanne Utiger There are a few ways you can cook steak. It really does depend on how you prefer to eat and enjoy your steak, as to how you would prefer to cook it. Knowing how to cook steak, will in fact make for a pleasant evening, or even midday meal.
Many people will opt for the method in frying their steak in a stove-top pan. Add a little butter to the hot pan. You need a decent temperature, as steak is best when fried quickly - often called searing. This is when the outside of the steak is nice and browned, yet the middle of the steak remains at a consistency of your liking. The longer you fry the steak the further cooked it will become on the inside. For a rare fried steak, it generally takes all of approximately 3 - 4 minutes frying on both sides. For a medium steak, try frying time of 5 minutes, and for well done steak, cook for 6 - 8 minutes of both sides of the steak.
Try marinating your piece of steak overnight if you so desire. There are many flavours of marinade you can purchase already made up, from any local supermarket. Or, you can even create your own marinade. Be imaginative. You could also rub both sides of your steak prior to frying, with crushed garlic. Once again, such an accomplishment can be purchased from your local supermarket, or even try crushing your own. Crushed ground black pepper is also another alternative which will in fact, add a delicious additional flavour to your chosen piece of steak.
Bar-b-que steak is another favourite of many. Make sure the bar-b-que grill is very hot, placing the steak across this plate grilling for the required time to your preference. Ie: rare to well done. You can with any given method in cooking your steak use the additional flavours such as marinades and toppings.
Alternatively, if you do not have a bar-b-que or the weather is not right for such cooking methods, you can still have and enjoyed grilled steak. All you need is an oven pan and a grilling rack to be placed over the top of the pan. Place this with your chosen grade of steak in the oven, which is to be set on to the grill option, which you will find located amongst your dial and cooking options settings on your oven. Generally the cooking time is the same for the above methods. Although every oven seems to be different, so it will just be a matter of watching and learning how your oven cooks it best over a few attempts.
In addition to the methods mentioned and detailed above, you can also bake your piece of steak. Place a layer of tin-foil in the bottom of a baking dish and place your steak in this dish, with any additional flavour additives you desire. Your oven should have the temperature of approximately 180 - 200 degrees Celsius. Once again, it is a matter of keeping an eye on the steak while cooking as to how you prefer it to be cooked. Do not forget to turn the steak over to cook the other side. Steak is however best cooked and enjoyed with as little turnovers of the piece of meat during cooking time as possible.
If you so choose to, on baking your steak, you can wrap your steak in tin-foil with the additional marinades or flavours of your choice. This will keep the steak moist and not dry.
If once cooked, you find your steak is rather dry, on cooking and preparing steak again, cut back your cooking time, or lower the temperature you used on your first attempt. It can often be a game of trial and error before you perfect a steak to your liking.
Enjoy!
