How To Change Guitar String
By Joshua Jenkins How to change guitar string
If you already play guitar then you will know how frustrating breaking a string can be. Learning how to change one yourself could save you time and money. Learning how to change them is easy as well. This article will help you learn how to change a guitar string. It can be a real struggle to replace a string but it shouldn't be. Its such a shock when your strumming away and thwack, a string springs out from the guitar, flinging outwards. Check the gauge of the string, this is important when you go to purchase a new one. The gauge is the thickness. The lower notes of the guitar are created with thicker strings and correspondingly the thinner the string the higher the note. Remove the guitar string from the guitar. Learning how to change a guitar string is easy.
Take the broken string off of the guitar. Do this carefully because the strings can be very sharp and will cut through skin. Unwrap the strip from the peg, you may have to twist the knobs but it is worth it to prevent you from damaging the guitar. Once the guitar string has been removed form the guitar you could take it to a music store. Most towns have many music stores and so it may pay to try out a few and get a fair price. Take the string to the person who serves you, they will find an appropriate replacement. Ensure you are not given the wrong string, remember that there are both nylon and steel guitar strings and they sound very different. To change a nylon for a steel is very bad, and likewise to change steel to nylon is not good. A nylon guitar string is a very dull, wooden sound, the ability to bend and manipulate these strings is appealing to virtuoso guitarists, this is why classical and flamenco guitarists use them. The steel strings provide a much fuller, richer sound; they are much better for strumming. Either way it would be a mistake to put a nylon string on a steel string guitar and visa versa for a steel string on a nylon string guitar. The music store clerk is unlikely to make this mistake. Whilst you are at the music store it may be wise to purchase a whole set of strings. This way you can replace your own strings when they break, cutting out the journey to the music store. How to fit and change strings is a seperate task altogether. Get instructions on how to change them from your local music store.
Replacing the string will depend on what style your guitar is. An acoustic guitar string is usually very easily to replace. Pull the plug out of the appropriate hole at the base of the guitar. Remove any broken bits of string still in there and then place the bottom of the new string in. Replace the plug and then pull he top of the string through the peg at the head. Twist the tuning knob until the string is tuned, then you are done. Changing an electric guitar string is much more difficult. The varying designs of electric guitars make it difficult for me to give instructions so it may be that you go to your music store and ask someone to show you. Once you see the guitar string change you should be able to do it yourself without hassles.
Be very careful when handling both strings and guitars. The fragility of the guitar makes it a very delicate thing and so great care should always be shown towards them. Likewise be careful with strings because they can be very sharp at the ends. Hope this helps with you to change a guitar string.
