How To Build A Trellis
By Jason Taingahue Do you have plants that are growers and have no where to climb? Well I believe that you will need a trellis for these plants to climb so keep on reading and I will explain to you how to build a trellis.
First thing that we need to do when learning how to build a trellis is to take a look at what the purpose of the trellis is going to be and in this case we are going to learn how to build a trellis for the use of any plant that grows upwards. We call these kinds of plants climbers.
We will learn how to build a trellis on a small scale first and then you can take this trellis and use it to make a bigger one if you need too, or otherwise you can just use the one that are going to be learning how to build.
Well before we learn how to build this trellis we are going to need some tools and some materials. We will need a post hole digger and a spade. We will also need two biggish posts of the same size because these are going to be used for our main support posts to hold up the trellis. The last thing that we are going to need when learning how to build a trellis is a hammer and some nails.
There is some more timber that we are going to need at the end when learning how to build a trellis, but we don't have to worry about that until the main posts are in the ground.
Now that we have all the equipment for learning how to build a trellis, we need to dig to posts holes that are right at the back of the climbers or climber. Make sure that the posts are only at the most about 2 meters away from each other and dig them into the ground at the same depth, also make sure that they are flush with other too.
Now that you have dug the posts into the holes, the next step to learning how to build a trellis is to measure the distance between one post, to the other post and then add on about 2 inches over lap on each side of that measurement. Now measure ever 2 inches up wards on each of the main posts and make sure that you mark them as well until you are about 2-5 inches from the top. With these measurements you can now have some marking that will determine the size of the timber you are going to nail across ways on the posts and with the 2 inches marked that will be the distance of each timber spread. So nail those pieces of timber from post to post.
The next step to learning how to build a trellis is to measure 2-3 inches across ways on the timber that you have just nailed on. Once you have done this you will get a clear indication of what size timber you can use to nail on upwards. So get the appropriate timber and nail it onto the other timber. You should now have little squares which will make up your trellis.
Wasn't that hard to learn how to build a trellis was it? Well good luck and you can build a trellis as big or as small as you want, depends on the size of your climber.
