How To Build A Retaining Wall
By Jason Taingahue Have you got a horrible lump of bank in the front of your section? If you have answered yes to this question then I suggest that you learn how to build a retaining wall and if you don't know how to build a retaining wall, then read on and I will show you how to build a natural retaining wall.
What I mean by learning how to build a natural retaining wall is to use the natural resources that are around the house and in most circumstances this can be rocks or just dirt.
Now let's get started on the retaining wall that we are going to be learning how to build. First of all we will look at the bank that is going to be turned into the retaining wall and we will get a string line from where the first section of the retaining wall will start to the end of it. Once we have sprayed a line for where the retaining wall is going to be, we then need to dig out a little hollow along the front of the retaining wall, being sure not to dig past the string line, as this is where we are going to start building the rocks up. Every hollow will be different, so long as the ground is level and depth is the same that is all we need for now.
Once you have dug out the first hollow in the ground when learning how to build a retaining wall, we can put our first layer of rocks into the ground, patting them down with a rock hammer and them building them up to the appropriate height and making sure that we are using clay from the ground to fill in the gaps around the rocks and make sure that you pat the clay into the cracks good as well. Another thing when learning how to build a retaining wall is to have the back of the first level flat so that the rocks can fit in evenly. Some rocks may have to cut down a bit using the rock hammer, but that is fine because it isn't that hard to do and helps to give the retaining wall a clean level look.
Once you have done this when you are learning how to build a retaining wall, you can then make another level and another as well by just following the same instructions that I have just given you for the first retaining wall.
Another thing that you have to remember when learning how to build a retaining wall using this method is that you don't have to use rocks to make a retaining wall, you can use large tree branches or just use plain old wood. You can even use concrete for a retaining wall as well. Just be creative and use your own imagination when you are learning how to build a retaining wall.
Well I hope that this method of learning how to build a retaining wall helps you gain a little more insight into the world of retaining walls. Share this information with your friends and see what they think of making a retaining wall like the one that I have give to you and be aware that learning how to build a retaining wall can be a pretty big and hard job, so be sure to take your time when you are building one and get extra help if you can too.
