How To Build A Rabbit Cage
By Leeanne Utiger You have a rabbit, or maybe someone has given you a rabbit and now you to learn how to build a cage for your rabbit. If you read this article on, you should find out enough information for you to know how to build a rabbit cage for your rabbit.
When you initially begin to read up on how to build a rabbit cage, you will learn that a rabbit cage does in fact have to be at least four times the size of your rabbit. This is because a rabbit needs plenty of space to be able to move about in. If you think your rabbit is going to be spending a lot of time in the rabbit cage you are learning how to build due to whatever circumstances, (maybe you work long hours) etc, it is advisable that you build the rabbit cage slightly bigger than what has been suggested above.
It depends on what sort of rabbit cage you want to learn how to build. You can in fact build yourself, or even purchase what is known as a 'rabbit condo'. Yes - rabbits can now live in luxury. This type of rabbit cage is more intricate to learn how to build, yet one that your rabbit will simply just love. A 'rabbit condo' is a split level rabbit cage, which contains an installed ramp inside the rabbit cage you are learning how to build. This gives your rabbit access to the upper level of the rabbit cage, now known as the 'rabbit condo'.
You will learn however, that with any rabbit cage, you will need a box built out of wood at one end of the rabbit cage. Make sure you have an opening where you can get into this part of the rabbit cage you will learn how to build. But bear in mind, this opening has to be one that only you or your children can get IN to, not one your rabbit can get himself OUT of. This is where you place the straw for your rabbit to sleep in and snuggle up in for added warmth. From here you will also need a little doorway for your rabbit to be able to move out into the open part of the cage you are now in the middle of learning how to build. The rest of the rabbit cage can be built out of wire netting with wooden planks used for the framework. You simply attached the wire netting securely to the wooden frame of the rabbit cage you are learning how to build. You will also learn how to know what wire netting to purchase. The netting has to be small enough for the rabbit to be maintained within the cage. You do now want wire netting with great big holes in it. This will not contain your rabbit. It is also suggested that you place the wire netting on the base of your rabbit cage when you learn how to build it. Not everyone will do this. However I have learned over the years, the more rabbits that have escaped from their homes, have in fact been from homes that did not have a wire netting floor to the cage. The grass can still grow up through the holes in the netting from the ground for the rabbit to nibble on. This is not a concern.
You will also learn to fix a water bottle attachment to the inside of your rabbit cage, that you have almost finished learning how to build. This is just something to help hold the rabbits water bottle up successfully. Sometimes the weight of the rabbits water bottle can tip it sideways, therefore making it harder for the rabbit to get any fluid into it.
Once you have successfully learned how to build a rabbit cage, you can then go ahead and put what you have learned into practice. Once you have finished building your complete rabbit cage, you can then, place the straw in the bedding compartment and any food scraps you think your rabbit may want to eat in the outer part of the rabbit cage you have learned how to build. And do not forget to provide plenty of water for your rabbit.
