How To Build A Pond

By Jason Taingahue
Do you want to learn how to build a pond? Then read on and I will give you a very useful lesson on learning how to build a pond. It's a very simple method too, so anyone can in fact build a pond..

Obviously when we are learning how to build a pond, there are fish involved usually. Sometimes there are even frogs involved too. Let's say that we are building a pond for fish anyway.

So the first thing that we must do when learning how to build a pond is to figure out where we are going to build it. And let's say that we have a back yard and we want to build a pond out there because it would look nice in the back yard with a nicely landscaped garden.

The best place to build a pond is somewhere that we can dig a hole and make a pit. So when learning how to build a pond, take a look in the yard finding a suitable place where we can make a little pit that will make it look attractive. Once we have found the place to build a pond we then dig a pit, and the size may vary depending on how many fish there are gonna be in the pond that we build. Make the pond about 3-4 feet deep.

Now that the pit has been dug up, we then take the measurements of the pit and write them down. We need this so that we know how many rocks we will be putting around the pond. Any type of rocks will do as well. Just make sure that wherever you get them from; roughly keep the rocks at about the same size.

We then place the rocks around the pond, giving it a nice little border. The next step when learning how to build a pond is to put a few rocks into the actual pond itself as well as a few toys so that the fish have somewhere to hide and sleep. An old sunken boat is good. Even an old gumboot with holes in it is good to use as well. This gives the fish some shade as well.

Now the next step is the water and to do this we will run the water straight into the pond from the hose. If we do it this way, we have to check that the water is at a suitable level every day, which is about 5-6 inches from the top of the hole. The water is placed this far down so that the fish don't float over the side of the pond. Remember that you have to check the water level every day and make sure there is enough water in there for the fish and make sure that it isn't warm too.

Now the final step when learning how to build a pond is to put a wire mesh over the pond so that no cat can get in there and scoop the fish out, because I guarantee that they will try. This gives the fish that added protection.

Well there it is, how to build a pond in a very easy to do technique. Give it a go, it doesn't take much effort at all.
