By Jason Taingahue Learning how to boil chicken isn't as easy as it may sound. The right timing and temperature is important because over boiling can lead to less flavor in the chicken and under cooking can lead to food poisoning, especially if there is still blood running out of the chicken. Yuk!!
First of all when learning how to boil a chicken, we must get a chicken. And to do this we can go to our local super market or a meat market and get the chicken that is suited to our liking.
Now when you are learning to boil a chicken, take the chicken that you have bought out of the packaging that it is in, and take a good look at it. Sometimes the chickens are not plucked right, and if this is the case then take it back to the place that you bought it from, or in most cases there is usually a phone number on the back of the chicken wrapping, saying to give them a call if you are not happy with the product. I mean if you want to learn how to boil a chicken, you don't want a faulty chicken. So ring the company up, and they will replace the chicken, and usually give you extras for the trouble it has caused you. And if they don't replace the product then consult a lawyer.
Anyway back to learning how to boil this bird. When we have got an appropriate chicken to be boiled, that has no faults in it, or no extra feathers, we can then proceed to the next step in learning how to boil a chicken. This is getting the chicken ready. To do this we will turn the element on the oven on to a high heat, and fill a pot up with water and then place the pot on the element.
Once the water has started to boil, we can then place the chicken into it, and once the water starts to boil again with the chicken in the pot, we can then turn the heat down and boil the chicken on a medium heat. We are dividing the time into quarters so that we can check to see how cooked the chicken is at each of these timings. All timings may be different when learning how to boil a chicken because of the size of the chicken. Check the back of the packet that you bought the chicken in, and this will tell you what sort of timing you are looking at.
Anyhow, when learning how to boil chicken as we said above, that the timing is important, and we will check the chicken at quarterly timings with what we call a skewer, which is a long thin stick with a point at the end of it, or it can be metal too. We poke this into the meat and this will tell us if it is ready or not. The way to tell if chicken is cooked, is if the fluid that runs out of it is clear, then the chicken is cooked. If it bleeds then it needs to be in there for a little bit longer, and if no juice comes out then it is over cooked.
As soon as it is clear, take the chicken off the stove and there you have it "how to boil chicken".
